this is a cool idea: moss terrariums.
the one on the right was created by amy shriner and sold on etsy. these little terrariums are a self-contained ecosystem and basically all you have to do is water it every two to three weeks.

Very cool.
Although earth hour is mere tokenism, it does promote awareness to many who tend to forget. It doesn't have to be a competition--we can do both, and maybe even go and plant a tree or two as well.
